FIRST RESULTS OBTAINED AT THE TESTING STATION FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT COMPONENTS IN BLOIS

PREMIERS RESULTATS A LA STATION D'ESSAI D'ELEMENTS DE MATEREL ROUTIER DE BLOIS

This station, opened in 1973, is now operational for testing bitumen meters, aggregate batchers, pulverized material batchers and spray bars. Results obtained led to the conclusion that all meters must be regularly calibrated with a view to defining the unit volume of the device for given conditions of binder temperature, pressure and flow. Bitumen meters are calibrated on a test rig according to a procedure accepted by the commission for the equipment. Aggregate batcher tests have shown the influence of the moisture content and loading level in the hopper. As regards pulverized material batchers, current tests show the most important parameters. The test rig for spray bars facilitates the study and adjustment of low-, medium- and high-pressure sprays. According to the results obtained the conditions are defined for each machine. This station contributed to a number of studies: capacitative and neutron gauges for measuring the moisture content in the flow of materials; control of the batching of surface dressings by means of radioactive tracers; device for measuring the rate of flow of pulverized materials by means of radioactive tracers; test rig for testing batchers for admixtures for concrete. /TRRL/
