PUMP PERMITS SEPARATE CARGO TANKS

Handling chemical cargoes in specialized tankers requires taking measures to preserve both cargo purity and stability. It is necessary to maintain complete bulkhead separation between cargoes, and desirable to eliminate cargo pump rooms on board the vessels. Submerged pumps enable the vessel operator to load and receive cargo into each tank separately, to wash one cargo tank while others are discharging, and to exercise precise control over the pump's performance with the hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor for the submerged pump is connected to the impeller via a short shaft, thereby eliminating the vertical long spindle drive from a deck-positioned motor, and avoiding complex bearing and alignment arrangements.
