VARIATIONS ON A SINGLE THEME: FUTURE CONFIGURATIONS AND GROWTH OF THE PATROL HYDROFOIL COMBATANT (PHM)
Conceptual studies of new uses and missions for PHM as well as improvements in subsystems and performance are presented. Revisions in PHM's military payload, presently designed for a surface warfare role, are shown as specific configurations: i.e. , anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, mine warfare, helicopter carrier, and a Coast Guard version. Studies of PHM growth as measured by range (endurance) and payload are presented. These studies fall into two classes: those constrained by the PHM's design displacement and those constrained by the full power capability of the foilborne LM 2500 gas turbine engine. Other growth possibilities for the future are suggested.
