DOPPLER SPEED-MEASUREMENT - OPERATION AND APPLICATIONS
The general principles and advantages of sonar Doppler logs are discussed, and the Atlas ALPHA principle (by which measurement is unaffected by water temperature and salt content), developed by the Krupp Atlas-Elekronik company, is explained. Applications of Doppler speed-meaurement are discussed, and brief information is included on the new Atlas and DOLOG docking-system, which dispenses with the need for a separate Doppler System for measuring the lateral velocity of the ship's stern.
