COMPUTERISED DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR THE OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF THE TRANSPORTATION OF SUGAR CANE
The study's objective is to determine the optimal truck fleet to guarantee an uninterrupted supply of sugar cane at the mill. The paper then determines the optimal organization of running the haulage system, particularly to select the optimal dispatching strategy in order to ensure maximal utilization of the available trucks. Discussed is the development of an interactive simulation model to be used in several "what if" scenarios to determine the effects of increasing or decreasing resources, and to give indicators as to what is the optimal fleet size for various conditions.
