DETERMINATION OF FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH RATE OF SINGLE TENSILE PEAK LOADS FROM CONSTANT AMPLITUDE LOADING. IN: FATIGUE LIFE: ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION
Overloads during fatigue loading retard the crack growth rate. The retardation obtained is a function of overload ratio and overload affected plastic zone size, which is a function of overload stress intensity and yield strength of the material. It is possible then to find the minimum crack growth rate after an overload if yield strength of the material, overload ratio, and stress ratio of the cycle are known. This paper presents an equation for predicting the minimum crack growth rate achieved after an overload for 6063-T6 aluminium alloy and suggests parameters which influence this value.
