LOW-SPEED ENGINE MAKERS CUT FUEL CONSUMPTION
In an effort to reduce fuel consumption, engine designers have directed their attention to refining diesel engines and modifying them to develop maximum power at lower speeds. This article discusses the development of low-speed engines and engine designs of six companies: Sulzer Brothers, of Winterthur, Switzerland; Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen; M.A.N., Augsburg, West Germany; Mitsubishi, Tokyo; G.M.T., Trieste; and Doxford, in Sunderland, England.
