INTEGRATED SYSTEMS SAVE TIME AND FUEL

Integrated navigation can be defined as the use of a central computer to process navigation data from a variety of sources and to provide an optimum estimate of own ship's position. By thus combining data from several different location systems, better accuracy can be achieved than that provided by any one of them operating alone. This report describes several integrated systems including the Sperry Marine modular integrated navigation system based on hardware and computer software additions to a collision-avoidance system (CAS), Iotron's Auto-Mate integrated navigation system, which is a fully automatic navigation system, the IBM MA/BS (Maritime Applications Bridge System), Norcontrol's Data Bridge System, and the Litton INAS-2000.
