CONCH BY KAISER
The Conch System involves a secondary barrier where the membrane systems have the tank clad with insulation which in turn rests directly against the inner hull of the vessel. The void space around a Conch is inerted with nitrogen and provides convenient routing for breakage alarms or for tank inspection should their integrity be suspect following collision or grounding. Although the Conch 2 system is probably the most expensive of containment tanks, the advantages over spherical tank designs are of a more rigid hull, lower cargo centre of gravity, less windage and better visibility from the vessel's bridge, all of which help offset higher cost.
