THYRISTOR RECTIFIER FOR TRACTION: PRACTICAL AT LAST
This paper describes the operations of a thyristor rectifier for transit applications by comparing it to a diode rectifier. A new method for calculating characteristics of a tyristor rectifier with capacitive load is described. Current and voltage harmonics are calculated along with total harmonic distortion and power factor. The paper shows that both distortion and power factor are within the authorities' requirements. The method is verified by measuring harmonics and comparing them with calculated values. A lost of desirable features for the thyristor rectifier is compiled.
