SPECIAL STAINLESS STEEL ALLOY PROVES COST EFFECTIVE IN SALTWATER SERVICE
The article describes a recently developed special stainless steel alloy called Nitronic 50, proven to be cost-effective for engineers and designers of equipment for saltwater service. This austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel has corrosion resistance greater than that provided by better-known Types 316 and 316L, long considered the most corrosion-resistant of stainless steels, and about twice the strength as well. This combination of corrosion resistance and strength is not found in any other commercial material available in its price range, the manufacturers say.
