SMART CONTROL : LEDS WILL BRING BENEFITS BUT THERE IS MORE TO COME

Three new ways light-emitting diode (LED) lamps are being used for runway and airport lighting. One is a PLC-based electronic control system, which controls ground lighting on an entire airfield with modular fixtures and controls and programmable software for any size operation. The elevated LED runway light is designed for intersections of taxiways, can be programmed at different brilliancies and can be powered from solar units. LEDs can be expanded to approach and runway lighting, which will facilitate changeover to low voltage DC power and further savings.
