CARRIER CHOICES IN LOCATION : THE SYSTEM INTEGRATOR'S VIEW
Many outside technical and financial considerations will dictate which location tracking method wireless carriers adopt to meet the FCC requirement that wireless calls to 911 centers be trackable within a certain distance by December 31, 2005. Air interface, cell configurations and the degree of propagation of signals all influence the choice. Carriers are also weighing how they will integrate commercial location services and migration to new wireless technologies when they decide on which technology to use for meeting the location mandate.
