MOTOR VEHICLE VERSUS UTILITY POLES
The most complete solution to the problem of roadside obstacle involvement in road accidents would be to ensure that vehicles stayed on the road surface and remained under control. To find such a complete solution, however, is beyond the scope of this paper and less complete solutions are explored. It is therefore assumed that maintaining separation between vehicles and roadside obstacles is the objective and various ways of achieving this are sought. The decision making process behind the location and routing of poles is examined and possible advantages and disadvantages of alternative courses of action are discussed. /TRRL/
