DEVELOPMENT AND FIELD TESTING OF A NEW LOCATOR FOR BURIED PLASTIC AND METAL UTILITY LINES
The research and development program for a new instrument to directly locate buried plastic and metal utility lines is described. Downward-looking radar was used as the location method. The operating instructions for the pipe locator are summarized, and the laboratory and field test results are discussed. The development has proceeded from computer-processed laboratory measurements to a completely self-contained, battery-powered, portable instrument that will soon be produced commercially. /Author/
