GROUTING OLD MINE WORKINGS AT MERTHYR TYDFIL

Underlying the site of a new factory for Hoover Ltd. at Merthyr Tydrifil in mid-Glamorgan, old underground coal workings have been consolidated in a 0.5 million pounds sterling drilling and grouting contract believed to be the largest of its kind ever let in the UK. This has been completed ahead of time this November despite severe initial set-bakcs in the drilling programme caused primarily by the unexpected presence of buried "pools" of slag from early iron and steel-making operations, and other obstructions. /Author/
