ARCTIC TAGLU AND ARCTIC HOOPER: ICEBREAKING TUGS

The Arctic Taglu and the Arctic Hooper, built by Allied Shipbuilders Ltd of North Vancouver, B.C., for Arctic Transportation Ltd., are two new tugs designed by Cleaver and Walkingshaw Ltd. They are employed by Imperial Oil Co. under a five year contract and are engaged in towing 2,000 cubic yard self-dumping barges off the mouth of the MacKenzie River in connection with the construction of islands upon which oil drilling equipment will operate. Principal particulars of the tugs are: Length, o.a. 110 ft, b.p. 110 ft; Breadth, moulded 34 ft; Depth, moulded 16 ft 8 in.; Draugh 13 ft 4 in.; Displacement, max 712 tons; Main machinery, Two Caterpillar D399 Diesels, 1.125 bhp each at 1,225 rpm driving twin nozzle propellers at 258 rpm through Lufkin Reduction Gear. Service Speed 12.8 knots; Complement 9; Classification Lloyds Maltese Cross 100 A1 Ice Class 1. Order from: BSRA as No. 47,439.
