A FUTURE FOR HOMOGENISATION?

The manufacturers of homogenising equipment claim that their dispersion process replaces and actually obviates the need for the separation of heavy residuals and other so-called harmful consituents. It is claimed that homogenisation enables the whole fuel to be combusted, allows more efficient metering of additives and, what is more, eliminates the need to dispose of sludge. This means less maintenance and greater cost effectiveness. Some shipowners, acting on advice from engine manufacturers who have conducted extensive trials with homogenised fuels, have recently specified homogenisers rather than separators for their new ships.
