AN ALTERNATE ANALYSIS OF THE PRESENT SERVICEABILITY INDEX
The development of the present serviceability concept of pavements is discussed and the following definition is provided as "the ability of pavement to serve high speed, high volume, mixed traffic in its existing condition". Serviceability ratings made on selected pavements for the Highway Research Board have been related quantitatively to certain physical measurements of the highway surface. This paper presents an alternate analysis of the data made in response to some engineering comments and developed for both asphalt concrete and portland cement concrete pavements.
