THE EFFECT ON SAFETY OF INTRODUCING ONE-WAY TRAFFIC IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
EFFECT VAN HET INVOEREN VAN EENRICHTINGSVERKEER OP DE VERKEERSVEILIGHEID IN WOONWIJKEN
One-way traffic in urban areas is many times introduced as a method for traffic planning, improvement of traffic flow and simplification of traffic. However there was uncertainty concerning the effect of one-way traffic on traffic safety. In this study it is shown that the introduction of one-way traffic has very little influence on the occurrence of accidents, but the explanation of this lack of influence is not as yet known. First an evaluation must be made of the way in which one-way traffic in a certain area can be introduced to attain optimum safety. /TRRL/
