FIRE RISK ANALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATION TO SHIPS
This paper introduces, from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), an innovative fire safety regulatory approach concerning the fire safety on ships. It will be possible to use alternative, performance-based fire safety design and arrangements in lieu of traditional perspective designs. After providing a summary of the background of this new approach, the paper briefly reviews the state of the art in the fire engineering science applied to ships and pinpoints gaps to filled by future research and development.
