FOUNDATIONS FOR OVERLAND TRANSPORT SYSTEMS
CIMENTACIONES PARA ESTRUCTURAS VIALES
This chapter deals with foundations for structures for road and railway construction, in particular for bridges and over- and underpasses to be built along their path. Basic concepts of foundations in general are reviewed, such as load-bearing capacity, settlement, load tests and a few major techniques are presented which have only limited application in the field of road construction. Practical aspects of foundation design and methods for water control in excavations are also dealt with. For the covering abstract of the book see IRRD abstract no 231651.
