BEARING BEHAVIOUR OF THE TWIN-WEBBED PRESTRESSED T-BEAM TAKING INTO ACCOUNT REALISTIC MATERIAL BEHAVIOUR

The intersection forces and deformations of twin-webbed single-span or multiple-span under any loading is calculated. True possibilities of deformation corresponding to the actual bundary conditions are noticed. Horizontal elastic bearing on the supports is taken into account. Reinforcement are only mild, prestressed, or mild and prestressed. The calculation is performed by the method of the reduction process in two different ways. The material relationships are compatible and exchangeable. In the first step of the calculation, performance of the process shows the results on the basis of elastic calculation. Since in a consideration of non-linear material relationships the intersection forces and stiffnesses are dependent upon one another, the numerical solution is found by an iteration process. The results show that different deflections of the main beam with eccentric traffic load should not be neglected. The reduction of continuous beams to single-span beams by means of comparison moments of inertia can lead to erroneous determinations of intersection forces in the road slabs. Determination of the bearing capacity of road slabs lead, according to conventional standards, to results different from those that are found when the total bearing system is subjected to breaking loads. Dimensioning of a system can be carried out logically only either on the basis of linear-elastic calculation or of realistic material relationships. No satisfactory results are obtained in elastic calculations with approximatively reduced stiffnesses. In conclusions numerical examples with a comparison of the effects of the overall safety factor and partial safety factors. /Author/
