MEASURING VEHICLE DRIVING PATTERNS - ESTIMATING THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT MEASURING INTERVALS
Driving patterns, i.e. speed and acceleration profiles are of importance when studying environmental effects of traffic. A common way of registering driving patterns is to use a vehicle with a data logging equipment that registers the speed. Velocity is measured with different accuracy in different investigations and it can be questioned whether it is possible to compare data obtained using different measuring intervals in time and space. We compare some driving pattern parameters and estimate fuel consumption and emissions for the same driving pattern when having a) different time interval for registering speed and b) different length of the shortest distance that can be measured. We can conclude that using different measuring intervals affect the driving pattern parameters and also have impact on the estimated fuel consumption and emissions.
