LATERAL COLLISION AVOIDANCE - ITS DECISION REPORT
This report is about Lateral Collision Avoidance. An assessment of technological solutions is mentioned, including the following items: principles of operation, based on systems that alert the driver to any foreseeable danger and correct driver errors, and sensing techniques with vision-based systems, laser scanning of lane markers, and coded magnetic arrays embedded in the roadway. The report also details systems in development. They rely on representative projects addressing two types of lateral CAS: alerting and correcting systems. Lastly, the report provides an evaluation of these projects, numerous links, and detailed references to on-line reports. Also available on the ITS DECISION website under the heading Collision Avoidance are reports dealing with: Longitudinal Collision Avoidance, Intersection Collision Avoidance, Collision Avoidance through Vision Enhancement Human Factors, and Implementation Issues.
