KANSAS CITY REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
The planning requirements of the Federal Highway and Housing Acts of the early 1960s simulated comprehensive transportation planning in the Kansas City Region recently. Regionalism is a recent phenomenon in the bi-state area that contains the twin Kansas Citys. The article reviews the continuous and interrelated public transportation efforts in the region that began with the inventory and evaluation studies undertaken in 1966 and culminating with recent studies in 1971 and 1972. The region's acquirement and commencement of operation of a unified, areawide, comprehensive public transportation system is recognized.
