PREPARATION AND PAINTING OF SHIPS' HULLS. PAINTING AS CORROSION PROTECTION IN BALLAST AND CARGO/BALLAST TANKS--A REPORT ON IMMERSION TESTING IN A PILOT PLANT
In the tests described, twenty-eight large test panels were immersed under static conditions for periods of 17 months (ballast-tank panels) and 23 months (cargo/ballast-tank panels) respectively. From the results it was evident that the ballast-tank panels suffered an attack from corrosion relatively soon, mainly concentrated around edges and welds. On the other hand the cargo/ballast-tank panels suffered only a few attacks which were located at the edges and at surfaces near the edges. On none of the panels did light chamfering or grinding of sharp edges provide the paint with a longer life. Order from: BSRA as No. 48,669.
