INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE EFFECT OF MODEL SCALE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF TWO GEOSIM SHIP MODELS. PART II. BEHAVIOR AND PERFORMANCE IN WAVES
This report describes model experiments in head waves with a gas carrier of 0.75 block coefficient at a linear scale ratio of 1:70. The propulsive performance was examined in head waves for conditions wherein the ship model was free-running and unrestrained and therein a friction correction has been applied to compensate for the model-ship resistance scale effect. Speed loss or power increase prediction in waves is found to be more reliable when the thrust identity method is applied, because of it being independent of the application of the model-ship friction correction.
