NEWTRUCK DIRECTORY OF MOTOR CARRIER DATA
This database, called "newtruck", currently contains all Class I and Class II motor carrier data recorded by the United States Interstate Commerce Commission (I.C.C.) for the years 1965-1975 inclusively. The information in Newtruck, complete with carrier names and numbers, was originally taken from annual reports submitted by carriers to the I.C.C. This presentation illustrates some of the types of information contained in Newtruck, some of the ways in which this information can be aggregated and reported both in tables and in graphs, and some of the statistical techniques which can be applied to the data. This report is illustrative only and does not exhaust the potential of the Newtruck Database. Of the twenty thousand variables (over ten million items of data) in Newtruck, a sample of ten items has been chosen for this report. The report illustrates some of the many ways in which data can be aggregated--by year, by class, by region, or by individual carrier. It also demonstrates how easily carriers can be traced through time even though they change classes and carrier numbers. Means and standard deviations are supplied to demonstrate some of the statistical analysis capabilities of Newtruck. Each section concludes with one or more graphs which illustrate ways in which data may be displayed visually.
