FATIGUE COUNTERMEASURES IN THE RAILROAD INDUSTRY: PAST AND CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS
Though the railroad industry has been concerned with the effect of fatigue on railroad operators, and has been involved in countermeasures to combat fatigue for some time, it is clear that further interventions are still needed. This paper reviews and describes in detail the interventions that are called for, and discusses their scientific credibility. It summarizes the current knowledge of fatigue in transportation, explores pilot studies that the transportation industry has undertaken, and presents an assessment and summary of the current status of these projects.
