ON THE WAVE-INDUCED MOTIONS OF SHIPS
The Author's emphasis is on the development of numerical methods for predicting ship motions, in irregular seas of an arbitrary heading, with an accuracy comparable with that of the best existing strip theories but with a reasonable computing effort. For this purpose, a conformal-mapping technique is developed to describe the ship frames, and the two-dimensional potential flow problem is then solved as rationally as possible. Finally, the most common roll-stabiliser theories are reworked to fit the general seakeeping pattern. The main conclusion is that the conformal-mapping technique as developed by the Author is fully capable of describing the practical hull-forms of today. Order from: BSRA as No. 48,320.
