CHANGES IN INDIVIDUAL TRAVEL BEHAVIOR DURING THE ENERGY CRISIS, 1973-74

Four articles describe observations and analysis of individual travel behavior, as effected by the energy crisis of 1973-1974. They are the result of studies which treat the problem of response to a gasoline shortage from four different viewpoints. Individual responses -what people in three small cities said they had done - is described in the first article. The amount of gasoline people had been using before the shortage is analyzed in the second article. Changes in car purchase habits are described in the third article. The effectiveness of car-pooling, as measured by the increase in car occupancy, is described in the final article. The general conclusion of all of these reviews is that the energy crisis of 1973-74 did not induce significant changes in the travel habits of most people. /Author/
