TRADE-OFF MODEL: DOCUMENTATION OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS
Trade-off analysis is a method of measuring consumer's attitudes and preferences for various products or policies to assist the decision-maker in evaluating the public's response to those policies. It is a multidimensional rating procedure, using conjoint measurement techniques. NYSDOT developed a utility estimation routine, which when paired with a market simulation program originally obtained from Market Facts, Inc., allows the policy maker to investigate the public's response to policies in advance of implementation. This report summarizes the theory behind the trade-off programs used at NYSDOT. The program set-up, an example problem, and the program listings are also included. The reference section contains many of the applications of trade-off analysis in transportation. /Author/
