WINTER MAINTENANCE AND TRAFFIC SAFETY
This subject of this paper is traffic safety from the viewpoint of traffic safety in Finland. The study emphasizes that the appearance of winter road conditions is important to traffic safety. If drivers can see that the road is slippery driver behavior can be adapted by lowering speed and this will cause a significant reduction in accidents. Road condition monitoring and cooperation between maintenance groups should also be developed in order to reduce the change of surprise winter road conditions.
