DELIVERY IMPROVEMENTS IN THE STRATEGIC ROAD NETWORK
The outcomes expected by the UK Government in its 10-year Transport Plan are discussed in relation to trunk roads. The plan is to reduce congestion by 5% below existing levels, taking into account the forecast for a 28% increase if nothing is done to reduce congestion. 51 road schemes aiming to reduce congestion at local sites are at various stages of implementation. Road maintenance targets are described, with 89% of routine maintenance done at off-peak hours. Progress in road safety, traffic management using variable message signs, and quieter road surfacing is discussed. For the covering abstract see ITRD E112212.
