SUN DRIVEN
The World Solar Challenge (WSC) is a race across Australia for solar-powered vehicles. The Sun Surfer is a solar-powered tricycle that has been entered into the solar cycle race by a team of postgraduate engineers from Southampton University in the UK. This race, which covers half the WSC route from Alice Springs to Adelaide, allows each competitor to carry a 36V battery, solar panels and to use human leg power. The design of the Sun Surfer is described. A PalmPilot personal digital assistant will be used for power management. Competitors to the Sun Surfer are discussed.
