AIR BRAKE TECHNOLOGY

As commercial vehicle weights and speeds increase so it is important that braking systems also develop in performance and incorporate additional fail-safe systems. The book is intended to explain the design and method of operation of commercial vehicle braking systems and their components. Sections of a number of acts, EEC regulations and codes of practice applying to braking systems are summarised. The subject is discussed in the following sections: (1) regulations that govern the design and use of air brakes on road vehicles, (2) the language of pneumatics, (3) an explanation of the relationship between pressure, area and force, (4) principles of a basic value, (5) dividing an air brake system into essential sections, (6) piping diagrams built up in stages, (7) safety checks, and, (8) testing, test equipment and maintenance. /TRRL/
