AERODYNAMIC STABILITY MEASUREMENTS ON SECTIONAL MODELS OF SOME REPRESENTATIVE BOX GIRDER BRIDGES. PART III

NPL report Mar Sci 127 (IRRD 232288), covers parts I and II of an investigation into the aerodynamic response of a number of generalised box-girder bridges using sectional-model tests in a wind tunnel. Part I describes the background to the test programme and part II gives the results of tests on twin box-girder bridge models. The present report (part III) deals with vertical-sided single-box configurations. These results are presented as graphs of non-dimensional amplitudes against reduced wind speed, and in tables giving values of the fluctuating lift and moment coefficients at wind speeds for maximum response. Comparisons are made to assess the influence of model variables. Part IV will contain the results of tests on sloping-sided single-box bridge models. /Author/TRRL/
