HIGH SPEED GUIDED GROUND TRANSPORT OF PASSENGERS-SUMMARY REPORT

The work reported here was carried out for the Transport and Road Research Laboratory as part of contracts CON/3711/52. The subject of the study was a comparison between the use of magnetic and other suspension systems, in particular wheel-on-rail, for the transport of passengers at speeds higher than those currently used. The objectives of the study were firstly to investigate the technical problems associated with each technology, secondly to assess any differences in environmental impact and thirdly to make an economic comparison between the systems.
