A hypothetical case of a twin-screw fast dry cargo ship of 58000 tons displacement having steam turbine machinery is discussed. The influence on fuel costs of reduced speed, redesigned propeller, reduced rpm and servicing and repair is evaluated. The effect of ducted propellers is discussed in some detail for diesel- and turbine powered ships. Order from: NSFI as No. 14453.
