IMPROVING URBAN AIR QUALITY IN SOUTH ASIA BY REDUCING EMISSIONS FROM TWO-STROKE ENGINE VEHICLES
Vehicles are one of the dominant sources of urban air pollution in South Asia. One of the reasons why this problem is so prevalent in the area is that over half of all vehicles are two- and three-wheel vehicles operating on two stroke engines. This report analyzes different technical and policy options for reducing emissions from two stroke engines. The study emphasizes that it is important to understand not only the cost effectiveness and feasibility of enforcing different mitigation measures but also the socioeconomic implications of those measures.
