AIR QUALITY MONITORING IN CENTRAL ASIA AND THE CAUCASUS
The air quality monitoring component summarized in this report was undertaken to 1) carry out ambient air quality monitoring for key air pollutants in two cities using continuous analysers; 2) assess the current air quality monitoring system; and 3) provide recommendations for improving air quality monitoring. The program will assess: the current status of air quality; current and future vehicle fleet characteristics and their fuel requirements; the impact of different fuel specifications on vehicular emissions and air quality; the impact of changing demand and fuel quality on the refining sector; economic analysis of different options; and the appropriateness of changes in petroleum sector policy to facilitate the introduction of cleaner fuels. The ultimate objective of this program is to improve the public health of urban dwellers in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan by reducing vehicular emissions and improving urban air quality management.
