REPORT ON THE STABILITY OF SEMI-SUBMERSIBLES (OSFLAG 8 PHASE I REPORT)

The OSFLAG 8 project is one of ten projects of the Department of Energy's programme on Offshore Structure Fluid Loading Advisory Group and deals specifically with intact stability of semi-submersibles from a theoretical point of view. The study is confined to two types of semi-submersible: namely those with two parallel pontoons and a varying number of columns, such as the Aker H-3 and those with three columns, each column being attached to its own individual pontoon, such as in the Sedco series. These two types represent the designs employed in the exploration of oil in the North Sea and are likely to be adopted by operators in deeper waters also. In addition to the normal bibliographical references, a number of literature review sheets are appended to assist in the survey of related technical literature. Order from: BSRA as No. 48,475.
