BEDS 0N THE ROAD - CRITERIA AND CONSTRUCTION PRINCIPLES. IN: TRUCK CRASHWORTHINESS, OCCUPANT PROTECTION, AND ERGONOMICS
The ergonomic development of the driver's workplace in heavy trucks, the seats and the instrumentation, has changed substantially during the last two decades. The paper recognizes the interaction of work performance with the quality of recreation and sleep, and correspondingly, that sleepiness is one of the major causes of traffic accidents. The focus of this paper centers on the ergonomical criteria for the construction of truck beds, research about bedding quality and its application on truck bedding. Discussed is the effect of noise and vibration on sleep, as well as construction targets for beds in the running truck. In addition to the design and construction of the bed itself, also considered is the optimization of the cabin by means of a circadian-optimized cabin lighting.
