APRIL 2004 TRAFFIC DEATHS DOWN 1 PERCENT
In April 2004, motor vehicle traffic deaths decline 1 percent as compared to April 2003, going from 3,610 to 3,590. Figures for traffic deaths for the first 4 months of 2004 are up 3 percent, while the cost of motor vehicle collisions for the first 4 months of 2004 rose 25 percent from 2003, to a total of close to $73.9 billion. The estimated annual mileage death rate rose 7 percent to a total of 1.6 deaths per 100 million miles of vehicle travel. Statistics on a statewide basis are also given.
