THE STREETWISE EURO-REGIONAL PROJECT

STREETWISE is a Euro-Regional Project that aims to provide seamless and effective travel information on the TEN-T between the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) services in these Countries have evolved at different rates, due the varying size of the countries involved and the particular problems in each network. Separate authorities manage the United Kingdom) UK national road networks, reflecting devolved Government. There is currently little data interchange between these systems and also with urban systems, so an unconnected patchwork of separate services is in danger of evolving across the various countries. The STREETWISE project aims to integrate this patchwork of services on the TERN. It will do this through the improved collection and exchange of high quality information between national and local authorities as part of a harmonised European approach. The key objective is to provide seamless services to travellers. STREETWISE is also working with other Euro-Regional Projects to develop a network of interconnected ITS services across Europe. In particular, the project is leading the Evaluation Activity across all the Euro-Regional Projects.
