A RE-EXAMINATION OF THE OPTIMAL OVERBOOKING POLICIES FOR US MAJOR AIRLINES
Presented is a paper that investigates optimal overbooking policies for US major airlines. The paper had several shortcomings and the conclusion was somewhat misleading. The paper was revised. The revised paper provides different conclusions. The revised results imply that, although there is a significant negative overbooking effect (the more the number of passengers bumped in the current period, the lower the passenger revenue of an airline in the future periods), no airline should decrease overbooking levels, because the positive side of overbooking is so strong that it more than offsets its negative side.
