TESTING TUNNEL FIRE MITIGATION SYSTEMS
The extinguishing capabilities of fire suppression systems depend on the timeliness of detection and alarm systems, on extinguishing agent properties, and on the location of output devices. It also depends on the way in which the system deploys the suppressant. A water-foam deluge system for tunnel fire mitigation is currently being tested. Preliminary tests indicate that this system successfully slows the fire growth phase and reduces the fire magnitude. The system is able to extinguish Class B fires and to mitigate Class A fires.
