ROAD ACCIDENTS IN AUSTRIA
This paper analyzes crash statistics in Australia from 1992-2002. Studies show that the crash rate declined over that period of time, despite a rise in the number of vehicles on the road. The number of injury-type crashes as well as the number of fatalities went down. The urban/rural comparison remained constant, with 72 % of fatalities occurring in rural areas. The number of DUI-related fatalities went down. In 2002, the main causes of crashes were speeding (37%), not giving way (12%), inattention (11%), overtaking (10%) and alcohol (9%).
