THE SUBJECTIVE VALUE OF THE TIME SPENT IN TRAVEL
Value of the time spent in travel is a surrogate measure of the comfort, convenience, and reliability of the travel experience as a function of travel mode, a purpose, and time period and the environmental conditions affecting the trip. Value of time spent in travel is consequently an important element in spatial interaction analysis. Subjective value of the time spent in travel was measured using a psychological scaling technique, magnitude estimation. Data were obtained from 84 Chicago residents in 1976. Completion of the questionnaire required each participant to provide judgments of the relative value on 115- different trips in comparison to one trip standard (e.g., a 20-minute work trip by automobile). /Author/
